I always keep getting this notice every time I connect my USB to my netbook. I just bought my USB from a friend. I don't know if the problem was my USB or my netbook. My USB is a 4GB Kingston flash drive, and my netbook is Asus Eeepc 900HD. Can you tell me how to fix this?

What OS are you using? This is a very common issue on a computer.

And this is known on disk utility but can you identify or repair it from there?

If you are using a Windows PC, you can use the USB Flash Memory thumb drive into it.

The first thing to do is to reformat the factory crud and the FAT32 volume of the USB drive and then format it to NTFS format. From there, you can modify the Disk Management to assign a drive letter so it will be usable and can be visible on your computer or Windows Explorer.

Windows 7 has a support for FAT32 and exFAT volumes so changing the file system and assigning a drive letter will start the drive or the device. Even if you rebooted your computer without plugging the USB drive, you will be prompted that a new hardware is detected.

When you plugged in your USB drive and assign it as drive R: and then you unplugged it and did not use it for few months or more, it will still be drive R: when you plugged it again.

Here are the two things that I can suggest you to try.

The first thing you need to do is you need to restore your netbook so all the settings are fresh. Here's how you do it:

1. Click START

2. Click ALL PROGRAMS

3. Click ACCESSORIES

4. Click SYSTEM TOOLS

5. Click SYSTEM RESTORE

6. Click CONTINUE or provide administrator credentials if necessary

7. Click a DIFFERENT RESTORE POINTS and Click NEXT

8. Select the DATE AND TIME prior to the first sign of the issue

NOTE: If the date is in excess of five days click the SHOW RESTORE POINTS OLDER THAN 5 DAYS.

The Second option is to uninstall the driver of your device and reinstall it again.

1. Click START

2. Click CONTROL PANEL

3. Click DEVICE MANAGER

4. Click UNIVERSAL BUS CONTROLLERS

5. Below the UNIVERSAL BUS CONTROLS are the DRIVERS that run your USB PORT ( SEE ATTACHED FILE)

6. Uninstall all the DRIVERS

7. To uninstall a driver ( select one and hold + shift + F10 and then select uninstall)

8. RESTART YOUR NETBOOK

9. After your netbook has been restarted Go back to UNIVERSAL BUS CONTROLLERS

10. Again hold + shift + F10 then select SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES

SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES – It will Scan and install the drivers that you just recently uninstalled in your netbook.
