What is the difference between activex version and Plugin version?

Hi everyone,

What is the difference between activex version and plugin version? I thought that active and plugin are similar to each other but I noticed that they have some differences with each other. Can you site some example that shows each opposite sides?

What is the difference between activex version and Plugin version?

Dear user,

The main difference between ActiveX and Plug-in edition is that ActiveX edition can be used in Microsoft Internet Explorer, while the Plug-in edition can be used in all the other browsers like Chrome, Safari, Opera and Firefox. Using of either versions depends on your end user. If your end user is using Internet Explorer, then ActiveX edition is right choice for you. If you do not know which browser your end user will use, you will need to have both ActiveX and Plug-in editions.

What is the difference between activex version and Plugin version?

ActiveX is a set or group of object-oriented programming technologies and tools developed by Microsoft designed for the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser to facilitate or enable rich media playback.

It is a software framework which Microsoft introduced in 1996 that adapts its previous COM or Component Object Model and OLE or Object Linking and Embedding technologies for content downloaded from a network specifically from the internet or the World Wide Web. Microsoft Internet Explorer utilizes the ActiveX software framework to load other applications in the browser.

“Controls” or “ActiveX controls” is the other term used for the ActiveX modules. The ActiveX controls are fairly similar to Java applets that extend the browser’s functionality allowing it to perform tasks it can’t normally do natively. With an ActiveX plug-in, this allows the browser to take advantage of these functionalities.

ActiveX, in theory, doesn’t depend on Microsoft Windows operating systems but in practice, the majority of ActiveX controls run only on Windows. At the moment, ActiveX is still supported as of Windows 10 with Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 but it is not supported in Microsoft Edge, Windows 10’s default web browser.
