Hi! I am supposed to write a one page assignment related to CPM Analysis. The only thing that I know so far about CPM in the development of a software is that it stands for Critical Path Method. I want to know what it means, what it does, what Early Start, Early Finish, Late Start, Late Finish, Total Slack and Free Slack mean in CPM?

Hi Lance,

Critical Path Method Analysis allows an individual to choose a logical end point in a given module and helps in recognizing the longest chain of interdependent activities.

Early Start (ES) is defined as the earliest time at which an activity begins with completion of the previous dependant activities.
Early Finish (EF) is the total time taken (ES + the activity duration).
Late Finish (LF) is the latest time at which an activity can be completed without any delay in the project.
Late Start (LS) is LF minus Activity duration.
Total slack can be defined as the allowable activity i without any violation of the actual deadline of the project.
Free slack can be defined as the allowable delay of an activity which does not have any effect on the Early Start of an upcoming activity.

Regards,
Anyet
