The Crawl Errors in Google Search Console helps to know the pages showing a 404 error. After finding all the error pages, you should start removing them, or updating the link, or redirect it to some page. If a manual update is not possible, you should update the access file.
As the link building takes manual effort, the task should have enough number of people during the project. You should solve the 404 error as soon as possible. If the broken links are high, you should stop your site services, and should work on it. It will be better if updates to the page, done regularly.
