Hi,

I have seen times where my PC suddenly shuts down and before that, a blue screen appears with something I don't understand.

Recently, I have been told that it is called BSOD or Blue screen of Death. But I had no idea what it is and why it happens in the middle of any program that I'm using or even when I am just playing games. I want to know why it happens. If there are any remedy to this problem, please don't hesitate to tell me about it.

I really want some solutions to this problem as I have this problem frequently in my PC. My PC has a configuration of dual core processor of 2.5 GHz, Ram 2 GB, and Intel DG41 chipset motherboard.

I had tried to deal with it but I can't figure out what to do with this problem.

So please, someone tell me how it can be solved. I will be glad if anyone can give me a solution.

Thanks!

Well,

It is officially known as Stop Error or Bug Check. Microsoft Windows operating system uses this screen error, when the system encounters any critical error, kind of non-recoverable in nature. In simple words, this is what you call system crash. Because of its color, we all call it as the blue screen of death. If you are using UNIX based OS, you will be familiar with the term kernel panic, which is similar to this.

Usually, this error occurs because of hardware/ driver related issue, which causes the computer to stop responding in order to stop further damaging the hardware. Screen will show the information of diagnosis as the OS is performing a bug check.

This can occur due to various problems such as the following:

1. Video card overheating – When your card's fan got covered with dust.

  • Clean the fan. Seek advice from an expert to do this.

2. Problem with registry – Your machine has a problem communicating among software and hardware using drivers.

  • Scan the registry for errors. There are tools and utilities to do this.
  • Boot from the Operating System CD and select repair. From the console run the chkdsk. It will find the errors on the installed OS and repair.

3. Device driver problem – Sometimes drivers may not be compatible.

  • Try updating the drivers. If this still doesn't work, remove or uninstall the hardware and check whether the problem continues.

4. Issues in software – Viruses can also be the cause of this.

  • Have the latest version of your antivirus software. Scan your system with it regularly.

5. Hardware Issues – Computer major parts like CPU, fan, RAM etc can be malfunctioning after using it for a long time. Especially if you are using it 10 or more hours a day.

  • Check whether these parts are functioning correctly. There are tools and utilities to check it. Seek for expert advise to do this.

6. Memory issues – In most computers, memory of RAM is shared between system and graphics. Ex: 128 MB RAM, shared 96 MB for system and 32 MB for graphics.

  • You must share the memory according to your requirements correctly. You can change virtual memory settings by doing these steps:
  • Right click the My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory.
  • Select custom file size for page file. You have to increase the page file size according to the software programs you are using.

If those suggestions above still do not work, final solution is to reformat the PC and install the OS and other programs.

When you take BSOD, it is an informal name given by users to Windows general protection fault error, the one you call as GPF. As its blue background and white text, people gave its name an honor, the Blue Screen of Death. One of the most fearsome colors in the Windows NT world. It will pop up in an NT system whenever something has gone terribly wrong and critically bad.

BSOD is generated by your operating system and system locks up. The temporal solution you can give is to reboot. This screen may include some hexadecimal values from a core dump that could be used to determine what caused the crash.

This blue screen can strike to anyone, anywhere without due warning. So, be prepared every time you are working in the middle of something. Even Bill Gates encountered a blue screen when he was demonstrating Windows 98. (But he prepared another computer on stand by).

And also, be aware that someone can fool you with a BSOD screen saver. Don't be caught by those idiotic jokes.

Hi,

The BSOD is known as the “blue screen of death”. There are so many reasons why this error happened to us especially when we are at work. There is a conflict of the software, virus attack, capacitor of motherboard problem, memory card problem. All of these can be the cause of “blue screen of death (BSOD). To resolve this kind of issue, please refer to the solutions enumerated below:
  • Make new installation of Windows system.
  • Use CCleaner software to clean the registry.
  • Check the memory card. Your computer has 2 memory cards. Replace one of the memory cards then, try to run your computer using 1 memory card. If the issue will not resolve. shut down the computer, then, remove the memory card from the RAM, and insert the next memory card. You can then start the computer.
  • If the BSOD will not appear on the screen, the problem was in the memory card and it will not resolve the issue.
  • Check the capacitor in the motherboard by using multi-tester and if the capacitor will not work properly, replace your motherboard. Changing it with a new motherboard will help solve the issue.
  • The last  step mentioned above needs a computer technician to fix the capacitor of the motherboard.
Thank you, hope this will help.

Hey,

  • DON'T be hasty.
  • JUST TRY TO PLUG and UNPLUG your MEMORY/RAM and your VIDEO CARD.
  • Or TRY to transfer your RAM in 2nd SLOT of the board.
  • Check also if the FAN of your hardware are working. Maybe theres something wrong with it that causes OVERHEAT.
  • Upgrade it or change the FANS.
  • IF it still occurs, REFORMAT or REPROGRAM it. Maybe it is corrupt.

Give THANKS to the name above.
