What application can I use for fastest server finder?

Hallo!

I have received a recommendation to use Namebench to use as the fastest server finder for Windows. This is with the intent of establishing the fastest server for faster internet experience. I have tested the application and it is working very well, if not perfectly. What I do not understand is whether this application modifies my computer in any way. Thanks big time for your help.
