Hi Experts,

I was playing around with the fonts on my PC with Win XP when suddenly all the fonts in my start menu changed.

I really don’t know how to undo this.

Can anyone please help me reset the settings and go back to the normal font?

You can see the image below.

If this happen suddenly and you didn't change your fonts or nobody had made a prank on your computer, then it really is a virus.

Solution 1:

Simply install an antivirus software on your computer and scan your whole system to look for viruses and malware that is around your system. Just make sure that you purchase a genuine and advance type of anti virus so that it can really detect and delete these viruses. If you a genuine XP then you can just Microsoft Security Essentials. It is downloadable for free.

Solution 2:

You can do a system repair or a systematic format. If it's okay to format your computer then you might just choose this option because it is much better and will make your system faster also.

You have changed the font settings of your desktop.

To work for this, open the desktop property.

Here’s the steps:

  1. Right click on the desktop, select properties on the pop-up menu. It is the last item on the pop-up menu.
  2. Select Appearance Tab (the fourth tab) in the Display Properties dialog box.
  3. Click the Advance button, the second button on the Appearance Tab. The button aligned vertically. Not the three buttons aligned horizontally, that is Ok, Cancel and Apply.
  4. An advanced Appearance dialog box appears. On the Item drop down box (the first drop down box on that window), select each item, then change the value in the dropdown box just below the Item drop down box. That is the font. You change it when the item selected on the above drop down box has the font properties. Just select each item 1 by 1 then change the font that you think is readable like Arial and Times New Roman.

Good luck!

Right click on the desktop, select properties on the pop-up menu. Select Appearance Tab in the Display Properties dialog box-Click the Advance button, the second button in the Appearance Tab the font. You change it when the item selected on the above drop down box has the font properties.

Hi Daniel,

You may also try checking the region and language settings in the control panel.

Checking the region and language settings in the control panel

Go to keyboards and languages and ensure that the language selected is English and your keyboard is in the US version as shown below:

Go to keyboards and languages and ensure that the language selected is English and your keyboard is in the US version

Also in the format menu ensure that the language is English.

If this does not work, then it could be possibly due to a virus attack.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Lee Hung.
