Virtual Server 2003 update error code 1603

I receive the following error when I am trying to install updates to a virtual server 2003 “Install failed with error code 1603. Right click on the computer log to view logs for more information. ” Is there any possible way that I can update this computer?

Virtual Server 2003 update error code 1603

Hi Bryan,

Error 1603 or " A fatal error occurred during installation." Is an error that happens when you are trying to install with insufficient privileges for the current user. So here is what you need to do to get this corrected:

1. Go to my computer and right click on the drive where you have installed Virtual Server 2003 since this is where the updates are going to be installed to. Then choose properties.

2. Go to security tab and click add then click add –> click System then Add and OK . Under permissions check full control.

3. Now click advanced and check Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects then OK. Now try to install you updates again and if it still fails then you may want to run the Virtual Server 2003 as an administrator .
