Are there any technical benefits (if any) of having different user profile aside from the admin user and how can I create one?

Yes, there are benefits in creating different user profiles in Windows aside from having your admin user account.

In admin user profile, you have the full control of your machine like installing different applications, deleting, copying, moving, or editing files, making some changes on how Windows looks by changing its appearance in the theme used, installing or removing some devices in the Device Manager, setting the firewall, and others.

If there are other users who sometimes use the computer, creating a different user account on your machine will help protect your system from being modified without your knowledge.

Having a limited account will have restrictions or limitations in accessing some information in the computer. A limited user account will only allow the user to change or remove his or her own password, change some desktop themes and settings, view only the files he or she created, and view files in the Shared Documents folder.

To create a new user account, you must be logged in as the administrator.

  1. Click Start then Control Panel.
  2. Click User Accounts.
  3. Click on Create a new account under Pick a task then just follow the onscreen instructions.
