USB adapter not working with my laptop

Hi there,

I accidentally spilled water on my Toshiba Satellite laptop the other day and it got damaged, I purchased Asus Transformer Book and got a USB adapter to transfer data from my other Hard drive, Everything seems okay but the drive appears with gray letters, any click on the icon is not working, How do I get the data from the other drive? What could be the problem?

Hi !

When you have spilled water on your laptop you might have damaged the hard drive also, and this is why your new laptop can't recognize it by using a USB adapter. To avoid any further problems with your new laptop is recommended to go with your broke hard drive to an authorized service to back up your data in a professional way without any problems. Your hard drive might be burned and only the specialist can revive it for a while to make a back up.

USB adapter not working with my laptop

If you will be connecting the hard drive from your laptop to your tablet via USB cable to possibly transfer files, this is possible but the hard drive has to be powered. It cannot operate and transfer files if you’ll only be connecting the USB cable.

The USB cable that connects the hard drive to the tablet acts only as a data cable or ribbon cable in standard desktop computers. The hard drive has a separate cable for the power. Try checking this converter on eBay: Hard Disk Drive SATA 7+15 Pin 22 to USB 2.0 Adapter. This adapter converts a laptop hard drive to USB drive and plugs directly to the USB port.
