I was planning to upgrade our IE7 in the production network to IE8. We are currently under one domain, and I was planning to deploy it using WSUS. My question is how to upgrade IE7 to IE8 via WSUS? What are the basic prerequisites before we can deploy it.

Fitting go to the Windows update situation at http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx

If you know never been there I recommend no to pose all updates (verbalize) since it instrument determine forever.

Use the pattern add and update only what you poverty (IE8 in this sufferer)

Painstaking: Are you windows repeat legitimate? Otherwise appease succeed of Microsoft sites.

IE8 installation and availability in WSUS is marked as an Update Rollup Package. If you have configured your WSUS to "auto approve", IE8 will be automatically approved for installation and you can decide how and when this update will be installed. If not, you can enable your auto approval for Update Rollup Package by doing the ff steps:

1. Click Start, Click Administrative tools and the and then click Microsoft Windows Server Update Services 3.0

2. Expand computer name the click Options

3. Click Automatic Approvals

4. Click the rule that automatically approves updates the click Edit

5. Click the Update Rollups

6. Enable the Update Rollups check box then click Ok

7. Click Ok to chose Automatic Approval dialog box

Assuming that you're ready to install, here are the steps that you should take in approving IE8:

  1. Open your WSUS administration Web site (typically accessed through http://WSUSServerName/WSUSAdmin/), where <WSUServerName> is the name of your WSUS computer.
  2. In the To Do list, select Review synchronization settings.
  3. In Tasks, select Synchronize now to synchronize your WSUS server with Windows Update.
  4. In the navigation bar at the upper right of the page, select Updates to switch to the list of available updates.
  5. Using Search, in the Contains text box, type Internet Explorer 8 to filter the list of updates.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Select the appropriate Windows Internet Explorer 8 for (Your OS) in the list of updates.
  8. In Update Tasks, select Approve for installation.
  9. In the Approval column, click the link for each computer group that you want to configure, and select the approval level.
  10. Click OK to apply the approval.

Prerequisites before you can deploy it:

  • You should have a computer with 223 megahertz (MHz) processor or higher
