I updated my TomTom to Home v.2 on a Windows 7. After installation, I received this error message. “The xxl550 is not attached to the computer.” I tried to solve it by uninstalling the program twice, then restarting the computer twice as well.  I also downloaded the program twice from the site.  The version I had before was working until I downloaded the updates today. Could the updates only be for the Home version?

There are few things that you can try regarding the issue you are having:

  1. Have you checked the wire that you use to attach the tomtom to the computer?
  2. Try resetting the device. connect the gps to your computer and reset it by holding down the power but for about 10-20 seconds.
  3. If the gps don't connect to your computer then it is time to go to your vendor and ask for a replacement.
  4. If it still fails then try to download and install virtual machine. Install windows xp in it and then see if it still has the same problem in windows xp.
  5. Download the whole software again and install it using the Run as administrator option when you right click on the setup. When done, install the updates in this manner too.
