Hello,

On my system I am using Windows XP SP 2.

My antivirus program found a few viruses that made some damages on my system.

Some files had to be deleted. Now I cant start search function. Should I reinstall windows?

If I do back up will it work when reinstallation is done?

Any suggestions?

Thank you Anthony

Hello Anthony,

At the time when your antivirus detected viruses what action did you do?If you click " move to quarantine"  then go to quarantire and restore it, but unfortunately the virus is still in your PC. I suggest that you back-up all important file to a external hard disk and perform a reformat of your Drive C:..

In addition, if you click " delete " then there you are compulsory to perform reformat.

Thank you.

Hi Anthonny!

As I understand, whenever this particular error dialog box appears on your screen, you cannot search for files or folders or to search the internet is unattainable as well. These characteristics usually occur when the  Search Companion had vanished or had been disabled.

Search Companion on your computer may also be disabled whenever you link up to a certain internet service provider which has a Search Companion on their own. However, if that's not the case you can try to install WINDOWS XP SP1, HOTFIX or just simply reinstall the search companion files itself.

Search engines like Yahoo, Google, etc. provide different ways how to fulfill it by yourself.
