One top maker of computer chips, TSMC, plans to produce larger silicon wafers that will lower the cost of computer chips production. What is a silicon wafer and how can a larger 450mm silicon wafer (from 300mm) lower the cost of computer chips production?

TSMC’s Silicon Wafer for Low Cost Computer Chip Production

Silicon wafer is a meager cut of semiconductor material, for example silicon gem, utilized in the manufacture of joined circuits and alternate micro mechanisms. The wafer serves as the substrate for microelectronic devices.

Examiners state greater sized wafers might unbelievably lower the chip preparation prices according to the analysis done by them. Therefore most companies preparing to make wafers 450 mm in length other than the 300 mm wafer which is the biggest size at present. TSMC has no exact plan to manufacture of 450 mm wafers as yet and there may be many technical difficulties still to resolve.
