I have 400 mailboxes on my Exchange 2010 server and wanted to know how to backup just mailboxes and an other option to backup exchange server itself so I can restore it as needed
Steps to backup the Exchange 2010 server
Hi,
You can backup Exchange 2010 using windows server 2008 R2 features. You need to use windows server backup. The steps are as below:
-
You need to first Install the windows server backup option on your local computer.
-
You then need to disable exchange replication service VSS writer.
-
Check if it is running or not. If it is running then you will need this step.
-
You now need permission to take backup of mailbox and restore as a user of the exchange server.
-
Now you need to open windows server backup feature that is in the programs folder.
-
Now select backup once from the action menu.
-
Click different options and then click next.
-
Choose type of back up ( full server) specific volume( specific) and click next.
-
Click the location to store the data that is being backed up and click Next. Now choose VSS full backup on advanced options page and click next. View the back up status from back up progress screen.
-
Click on close as backup is complete.
Similarly, you can back up exchange server as well. You just need to select back up exchange server in that case at the time when you select backup mailbox. I feel this will help.
