Is steam Smartphone download app better than others?

I have heard that Valve announced the launching of the new steam smartphone download app. I am aware that we can send quick messages to friends and at the same time be updated with the news and all. But my question is, is it worth downloading? I have downloaded different networking apps and they seem to be all the same. What makes this app different from the others?

Is steam Smartphone download app better than others?
