I wish to download the windows media player starter kit, but before I do, I would like to know if it even contains the codec player media starter, any clue?

The Windows Media Player starter kit has the codec player media starter, but to be sure that you get a good one you will need to download its latest version. Also make sure that you download from a trusted site, and check for compatibility issues to avoid errors associated with that.

And also need to tell you something about codec. A codec is a Software that is used to compress or decompress a media file(song or video). All the media programs use codecs to play or create digital media files.

A codec can work as two components as an encoder and a decoder. Encoder does perform the compression  function and the decoder does perform the decompression function. Some codecs include both of these components. And some codecs include only one of them.

Ex :- When you try to rip a song from an audio device to your computer, the player uses the Windows Media Audio codec by default to compress the song into a compact WMA file. When you play that WMA file the player uses the Windows Media Audio codec to decompress the file, so the music can be played.

There might be times, however, when you need to play content that was compressed with a codec Windows or the Player does not include by default. You can get the suitable codec through the web mostly for free. And, sometimes the Player can automatically use the codecs installed by other programs on your computer.
