Greetings to all,

I have a powerful computer with great specifications but it does not make any sound. Even the Windows tune cannot be heard. When I open Winamp I get an error. I have used this computer previously and it was okay except I left it for a while before using it now.

Error message:

Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.

Error Code: 88780078

The problem can be a problem with your soundcard or drivers. These suggestions will help you check each one.

Solution 1: Check your soundcard

Go to Control Panel and click on the Sounds and Audio Devices icon. Click on the Audio tab and under the ‘Sound playback’ section, make sure that the ‘Default device:’ says your soundcard information. If it doesn’t, then you will need to open PC and ensure sound card is fitted securely in slot.

Solution 2: Restart the Audio Sound

Go to the Control Panel and choose Administrative Tools. From there click on Services.

Click on the Standard tab at the bottom of window and look for Windows Audio in the list. Right-click and choose restart the services from the drop-down menu. Should make your Winamp sound work now!

This should fix the issue for you.
