Sorry, Something Went Wrong

This is just one of those login errors you might see when you try to sign in to your Facebook account. The error message varies depending on the situation. The full error reads:

“Sorry, something went wrong.
We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”

This problem may not only appear when you try to log in to your account but you may also see it when you try to load a new tab after signing in. This could be a problem with corrupt cookies and cache, incorrect login details, server problems, and Facebook permissions. If your log in keeps failing, first option is to delete browser cookies and cache.

On your browser, press Ctrl + Shift + Del. This shortcut works with any browser. Next, check browsing history, cookies and other site data, and then set the “Time range” to “All time” or “Everything.” After this, click the “Clear” button and then try to sign in again. If this doesn’t work, try to disable every extension on your browser if you have different extensions installed.

In the early days of Facebook after its launch, I even encountered a message multiple times that says Facebook is down for maintenance something like the following:

“Facebook Will Be Back Soon
Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few hours.”

In case you encountered this message, your only option is to wait several hours until the site is up and running. But at the moment, after many years of continuous operation, I no longer see this message coming up when I try to login in the early morning.
