I assumed you are updating your X10 using a USB cable. First of all, you need to have a PC Companion installed on your PC. Please note that you should not disconnect the cable during the update as it can corrupt the updates. Follow the steps below:

1. Connect your phone to your PC with the USB cable.

2. Tap the Connect your phone option on your Xperia X10.

3. Wait for the PC Companion to read your device.

4. Click on the Support Zone and then Software Update and then just follow the instructions to properly update your phone.

Alternatively, you can update your phone wirelessly by going to the Settings and then click on About phone. Click Software Updates and System Updates. You will need a Wi-Fi connection to perform this.

Hello Dawn,

You will need to verify the system requirements for your phone, and make sure that you have:

  • And active Internet broadband connection that is needed for the update to take place, for installation updates have to be downloaded from the internet.
  • Check if your system is an Intel® Pentium® 4, with a 3.6 GHz or equivalent AMD processor.
  • You will have at least 500 MB free hard disk space on your device for the update to be successful.
  • You will also need a RAM Capacity of about 2 GB.
  • Make sure that you have 1 available USB 2.0 port as well as a USB cable.

In the event that you have an antivirus and a firewall on your system and they are ON, you will need to disable them during the installation and then re-enable them later.

Regards,

Carl
