Setup TV as extended display for my laptop

I want to hook up my TV as a second monitor for my Dell laptop with a dual display setup. I want the second monitor as an extended display. My laptop only came with onboard graphics, will it be able to support that kind of setup? Which connection should I use, the VGA or DVI?

Setup TV as extended display for my laptop

Modern DVI is preferable to the "legacy" VGA setup. Of course, an HDMI cable like this is the best method. Assumimg your computer and TV both have such a port. There should not be any graphic issues for your computer since the TV is doing the "heavy lifting."

After setup, just right-click on the desktop and choose "screen resolution" and "extend display" to expand your screens.
