Running out of CPU Power error while using Pro Tools 9

Hi,

I was a newbie Pro Tools 9 user on a Mac. Actually, it was my first time to tinker on an audio software. 

Anyway, I got this error message (see below) while using it, and I didn’t know what to do.

Can someone from the forum give a step by step guide on how to resolve the issue?

You are running out of CPU power. Remove some RTAS plug-ins or increase the CPU Usage Limit in the Playback Engine dialog.

Hello dread78, I want to provide you a solution that may solve your problem. To solve this critical problem you need to go protocol setup. Then go to playback engine. Then change your convert processor to 7 or 6. After completing this restart your computer. This time you’re you may continue your windows safely and soundly. Always try to launch a limited application in your PC. That might protect your PC from this kind of problem.

Running out of CPU Power error while using Pro Tools 9

Which operating system are you using, because the error mostly occurs when using snow leopard. You should try upgrading your plugs to the latest compatible versions of the Leopard operating system .In case that does not work; they you will need to knock your RTAS processors down to 2 or 1. That may help. But in case you have only two RTAS plugs/VIs then the system should be working fine.

Another workaround will be to use a minimum of 2 GB of RAM, for the Leopard operating system is a bit RAM hungry. Check also how much space that you still have on the hard disk drive and you should make sure that it is between 10-20% of the total volume that is available. In case it is less the virtual memory swap file is being written quite a bit and thus taxing the CPU.
