I want to reset my laptop to factory settings but I can't figure out how to do so. Will I need to fresh install windows XP from the CD? Is there any way to perform this task without the CD?

Reset laptop to factory settings

Hi Darlene,

Most laptops have a factory restore hidden in the HDD. To restore your laptop (Note: this depends on your laptop’s model and OS) try these following steps:

1. Switch on your laptop, while it is booting press ‘F8’ key (or ‘F11’ on HP brand)

2. Press up and down until the ‘Advanced Boot options’ menu shows up.

3. Look for a selection of recovery tools. And one of the options must be factory restore.

Some brands or manufacturers have their own recovery option like in ‘Acer’ which has a “Recovery Management”. Please note that factory resetting your laptop means that all your data and files will be deleted, so before doing this kindly back up your important documents.

I hope this information will help you.

Regards,

Martine Paul
