This is a very nasty virus and can affect almost all HTML file on your system and Hijack your PC.

First boot your system in safe mode. Search for Watermark.exe file and delete it. End the process from your task manager and remove file entry from window startup. You can use ESET scanner to scan for Virus in your system. If you cannot delete all the files then boot your system in safe mode.

View all the hidden files and remove the Watermark.exe process from your task manager. Use Windows defender to see for harmful processes. Delete Watermark.exe file. You can use CCleaner to get you system and Registry cleaned. You can also use Hijackthis to remove unwanted entries.

Do you know when you system was infected? If yes, then all you have to do is to reset your PC to a prior date. You can Use system restoring facility for this.

The below links provide useful information on system restoring:

If you are a Vista user: Use System Restore in Vista

If you use Windows 7: System Restore in Windows7

Run ESET scanner again and if you still find unwanted entries then system reinstalling is the best solution. Better not compromise with your system security.

Watermark.exe is a very unsafe process that can infiltrate your system usually from the web maybe by browsing some unknown websites and downloading something from there. Once you see it on your computer it can be sign that there is already an infection happening in your system.

The watermark.exe file can usually be found in this location: C:Program FilesMicrosoftWaterMark.exe. You don’t normally see a “Microsoft” folder because when installing different Microsoft products the folder doesn’t only come in a single-word description like microsoft frontpage, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft Works, and so on.

So when you see this folder you better check what’s inside. When you see the file inside, the next best thing to do is to scan your hard drive with your antivirus.

Update your antivirus then run a full system scan on your computer. Alternatively, you can also remove it manually by deleting the watermark.exe file inside C:Program FilesMicrosoftWaterMark.exe and deleting it from the registry: [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogonUserinit: “c:windowssystem32userinit.exe,,c:program filesmicrosoftwatermark.exe”]. This malicious file was discovered early quarter of 2012.
