Reliable Video-Editing and Compression Software Application

I am looking for a very reliable and free to download software for dealing with video editing. I have a very lengthy video file that I need to cut down to size. Could you recommend one such software which is capable of compressing a video file to the lowest size and have a quality image after compression?

How are you?

I have one software which i myself use it. Its name is AVS Video Editor. This is free to download with easy interface and cool lots of option

There are many other which are better but not free.

For trhe best quality you should try Adobe premier elements 11 or adobe premier pro. 

But you can always go for the simple one and go for the AVS editor.
