Hello! I just want to ask a problem about my software that I am using for presentation. I used Microsoft Office PowerPoint 97.

Every time I open my file it says that

You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting.

I don't have any idea on what registry policy is?

How can I unblock my file top to my registry policy settings?

I am using windows XP as my operating system.

Any help please?

Hi Andrew

This has something to do with your system admin disabling you access to certain file types. You have to ask your admin to set things for you to open Powerpoint files. However there is way to change this yourself if have the permission to access and edit the windows registry. Follow my instructions.

  1. Go to Start and click on Run
  2. Type regedit and enter, the registry editor should open.
  3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0PowerPointSecurityFileOpenBlock
  4. Find the name of file type you want to unblock in the right panel.
  5. Right click on it and select modify, change the value from 0 to 1.
