1. In Pages panel, just double-click the page to which you wish to insert the page number.
2. Next, create a text frame which is large enough to handle the maximum page number and any text in case you need to append to it.
3. Place the text frame wherever you want it to appear.
4. If your file has facing pages, then generate text frames for the left and right pages.
5. After that, in the text frame, add any text that comeswith the page number.
6. Place the cursor to the insertion point where you require the page number to appear, and then select Type, then Insert Special Character, followed by Markers and finally Current Page Number.

7. At last, apply the master page to the file pages where you want the page numbers to display.
