Raspberry pie usage for home automation

What is the raspberry pie? I was browsing the internet and saw that this apparatus was used to automate the air-conditioning systems in the house of individuals. Also I saw that, it could be further used to control the alarm system and act as a universal remote. Is that possible?

Yes this is very much possible indeed, as technology makes it easy for us, there are some very small size single board computers and raspberry-pi is one of them, there are other also available in market like Arduino. You can use them to make an automated house like you can automate your air-conditioner, use it to control your music wirelessly, you can built a multi-user music player, and so on. A lot of projects going on in this field and the day will come when almost everything will be automated.
