Ram memory vanished – W7 on 32 bits

Hello,

I have recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my notebook. The installation went smoothly without any errors. I have then noticed that 1GB of RAM vanished into thin air.

I have made some research and I have learn that this is a common issue on 64-bit as it needs more memory to run smoothly but there is nothing mentioned about 32-bit. Is there any way to recover my missing RAM ?

Here's a link to my laptop specs and a photo with my missing ram:

Hi,

You can restore your computer and go back to the previous time. Cancel all settings and uninstall all installation. Then restart your computer. Wait a while and give some time for windows so that it can detect hardware automatically. If it is not worked then follow other option.

Other option is:

1. Start your computer and login as an administrator.

2. Then go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click on System Restore.

3. In here click “Restore my machine to a prior period” and click next.

system restore-restore point

4. Choose the last system restore date.

5. Then click the Next button and Reboot your computer.

Now go and see your memory. If it is still like before then reinstall the windows.

Simply I can say you something you can upgrade your memory by adding another RAM to your laptop.

32 and 64 bit architecture is differ from your problem and of course it will somewhat effect on your RAM amount. But with 1GB RAM you can manage. Go to task manager by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del and see what are the application instances that are using your memory.

And tell me whether you have dedicated VGA in you laptop or not. If not normally it will share some amount of your RAM as VGA memory. So you cant use that amount for your other work. It will decrease the size of usable RAM.

Secondly,

Try to increase your virtual memory. Normally virtual memory is 1.5 size bigger than your RAM but you can increase that. Also use a lightweight virus guard when you are running on 1GB RAM, because some virus guards need more memory.

It will take from your RAM and also if you are using windows aero theme it will use more RAM, so you don't need to wonder what has happened to your RAM.

Thanks

Hello Dear,

It is not a problem. Your RAM has not vanished, it is still in use, but you cannot see it.

As you know, you have not installed an external VGA card.

You are using an on board VGA chip, and this VGA shares RAM and VGA Memory.

In this case, your RAM is being used as VGA memory, and you can see it in VGA memory section.

It will be available as VGA memory. Click on “Display” and you will see, Or type "sysdm.cpl" in RUN and you will see the RAM memory.

I hope this answers your question. Thanks.
