Hi,

There could be a problem due to 2 reasons either because of hardware or window operating system. You should check following things:

1. You need to check your Hardware configuration. There is often a chance that a RAM may not work or not properly inserted.

2. Else you need to clear the cache, cookies and other temporary data that computer use.

3. You should check your Start up the program; reduce the number of startup programs.

4. Open Task Manager and check the programs and threads that are running. If there is any background process that runs without any reason, you should kill that process.

Most of time Computers slowdowns due to two major reasons, RAM and Processor, if you have installed a RAM 256MB please upgrade it to 512MB and if you are using 2GHz Processor please upgrade it to 4GHz for better performance.

On the other hand lack of installation of patches for your required software is also a problem due to which your computer may slow down; please install all required patches and updates for your operating system and software installed over your system.

Please remove unwanted applications installed unintentionally on your system.

Check for your virtual memory, cache memory, also clear your temporary files from your disk.

Dear Michele,

The main reasons for the PC slowing down are the lack of resources:

1- CPU Cycles

2- RAM

3- Disk space

If any new program is installed it will use up the resources and if one or more than one of your resources becomes low. The performance of your PC gets degraded. Remove all big files from your computer. Replace hard disk with more space hard disk. Remove all the temporary files.

This will surely help.

Thanks

Hello Michele R,

It takes a lot of time to start the computer when you installed many programs or softwares.
It's hard for the start menu to load all the of that immediately. Try to uninstall unused and delete not that so needed programs. So your PC will have enough space.
Or try scanning your computer to remove the virus if there is.

Hope this helped you!

Go Start Menu >> control Panel >> Add/Remove program (XP, Vista) or programs and features (Seven).

7) Try to use licensed and updated anti-virus software.

8) You can get better speed for your My computer if you just follow the step below:

Hi,

There may be viruses affected your computer.
Use any registered antivirus to scan the full system and delete all viruses.
If your system becomes corrupted use the system disk to repair the OS.
Use cleaning tool like Ccleaner, Comodo Registry Cleaner etc. to remove problems and increase the operating speed.

Hi,

It seems that you installed a lot of programs on your PC which is not supported according to your PC configuration or your PC is affected by virus. If it is virus affected then you have to scan your hard drive by latest updated antivirus. Besides, it will be better if you reset all your PC settings and install the OS. Then your PC will be faster again.

Thanks
