Hello Mr. Jack Reacher,

To play a video file .avi format, Please Download VLC player from https://filehippo.com/. But if your processor is Dual Core, or up version, then you can download Jet Audio, its my best choice, Jet Audio is one of all media players, which can play all 480-720p movies without any extension. But you can play 1080p movies at VLC player.

After installing this program, if you still face the same problem, then please install video card driver, make sure the video driver is installed.

Thanks very much.

VLC media player is best option for playing .avi file. you can download it from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

in addition you can also use " Windows media player Classis ", it almost plays all format files including .avi file.

you can also go for "QuickTime player" but then you have to install some plug-ins for that which are easily available net.

I hope this will help you.

Hello Mr. Jack Reacher,

There are many media players that can play .avi format video especially if you’re using windows operating system.

But, I would definitely recommend VLC Media Player.

It can play almost all video formats including .avi in any resolution sizes. With VLC player you can download video from www.YouTube.com, adjust audio frequency by CTRL+ E buttons, changes the contrast and brightness, it easy to install and user friendly to use.

Here is the site http://www.videolan.org/vlc/,

Happy viewing.

Hello Mr. Jack Reacher,

You may try any of the following solutions:

1. There are instances that some files are being corrupted in Windows Media Player which may result to not playing AVI files properly, so be sure to restore your computer settings to normal when or before the problem started to occur.

2. This issue may involve codec packs. Windows Media Player can play AVI files without code pack but if you install or re-install one,  it may solve the problem. I recommend you should use K-Lite Codec Pack which can be downloaded here http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack

3. Check the Windows Media Player's settings on what type of file it can play. Go to Tools and then Options. Click the File Types tab and check if windows video file (avi) is being selected. If not, select it because it may be one of the reasons it can't play AVI files.

4. If none of the solutions above helped you, You may try to reinstall or upgrade Windows Media Player.

If Windows Media Player still wasn't able to play AVI files after trying all solutions, you can download VLC Media PLayer here

Thanks!

Hi Jack,

As many previous posters have alluded to there are many .avi players out there. Personally, I go to http://download.cnet.com to test what software is available on the market. Make sure to type in .avi in the search.

After typing in the search, It will even show you software which converts .avi to other formats like divx, mp4, mov, mpeg. and many more. Anyways back to your question, out of the .avi players list in download.cnet.com, I have personally tried FLVPlayer4Free, AllPlayer, UMPlayer, GOM Media Player and my personal favorite VLC Player.

Out of these I would go with VLC Player, I have been using VLC Player for over 12 years it has played all formats that I have thrown at it. More importantly it is well supported with a good community base, stable and FREE so you can't go wrong with that.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Renato
