There is no single solution for this problem but the following listed steps may help you resolve other problems as well:

A. Method 1:

Step1: Go to Settings> All> Select Google Play Store

Step2: Press “Force Stop” and stop the operation of this app > Clear the cache files

Step3: Retry downloading or updating your apps

B. Method 2:

Uninstall “Play Store”- updated version

Step1: Application Manager>All>Google Play Store>Uninstall updates

Step2: Retry downloading your apps

C. Method 3:

Step1: login through a different gmail account by following procedure:

System Settings>Settings>Accounts>Google>Remove your Gmail account

Step2: Press “Force Stop” and stop the operation of this app > Clear the cache files

Step3: Retry downloading or updating your apps

Step4: Go to account settings>Add account

D. Method 4: 

Sometimes the issue may arise due to lack of space or abundant of data in phone memory. Try freeing it and then continue downloading and updating new applications on your android.
