The performance of Core 2 Duo laptop verses that of Dual-Core laptop

A friend of mine gave me Core 2 Duo laptop and Dual-Core laptop to choose from. Which of these two computers would you prefer or recommend for me in terms of high performance? Can the performance of any of these computers be determined the architecture of Operating System installed on the Computer?

The performance of Core 2 Duo laptop verses that of Dual-Core laptop

Core is the main processing unit of any microprocessor. A multi core processor is more effecient, fast and multi tasking than single core processor. Dual core means that a processor has two core units built inside it whereas a core 2 is a brand name for intel 2nd generation microprocessor. A core 2 processor could be dual or quard core. Further more a core 2 processor is more effecient than any previous generation dual core processor, but if dual core processor belongs to core 2 family then it depends upon the model of microprocessor that which one is better.
