PCI Card enhances signal strength of ASUS USB wireless router

The signal strength of the ASUS USB wireless router is very poor even though it is placed directly downstairs the computer. Will the usage of PCI Card or USB Network adapter helps in improving the signal strength? Please suggest.

Hi Charmaine,

You can try several options to boost your wireless signal strength.

You can try to add a wireless antenna on your computer to see if that can help you to boost the signal strength.

Another option you can try to boost the signal strength is to move your wireless card on another location on your motherboard.

Make sure that your wireless router is placed on the highest possible position on your place and not on the basement.

You also need to make sure that the firmware of your router is up to date and not outdated.

Changed the settings on your router to several ranges to see which one is better.

Hello Charmaine,

An external USB Network Adapter provides better connectivity then your current 802.11g technology. It can also be used on your desktop and iPad devices. The signal detection is far more superior than built-in wireless capabilities of a laptop. You can in fact buy far more superior signal detection adapters than your laptop based wireless.

I can recommend D-Link wireless device like this. You can find cheaper deals in your local BestBuy or Ebay. You can also read a bit on Adapters and its types to choose what would be better for your needs. Based on your usage e. g. home, office or neighborhood you can select appropriately.
