Parental settings for you tube

Is there a parental lock for YouTube? My 5-year old loves watching videos on YouTube, but I afraid that most of the content is not suitable for her. How can I set it safely for my kid?

Thanks,

JJ

  • Click the Setting button under Content Advisor, choose the General tab and click the check box for ‘Users can see websites that have no rating’.
Setting button under Content Advisor, choose the General tab
  • Copy the URL of the website (e. g http://www.youtube.com), and paste it in the text box under the Approved Sites tab then click the Never button.

  • As you can see in the image below, if anyone tries to open the restricted site, a password is necessary if you really want to access the site.

If you are using a computer to watch YouTube videos, there is no option for the parental control. The only option you have or available is the Restricted Mode. When you enable this option in your browser, YouTube will attempt to hide videos that may contain inappropriate content flagged by users and other means.

YouTube doesn’t guarantee the effectiveness of the filter but it should help you avoid most inappropriate content. Restricted Mode is browser dependent. The filter is enabled only on the browser where you enabled it. When you use a different browser, Restricted Mode will not be applied.

To activate this mode, go to YouTube then click on your profile photo on the upper right corner of the screen and select “Restricted Mode” at the bottom. On the pop-up dialog, click “ACTIVATE RESTRICTED MODE”.

Now, if you want to use the parental control, you need an Android phone. On an Android phone, start the YouTube app then tap the Lock icon on the bottom corner of the app. Read and enter the numbers that appear then go to “Settings”.
