Opening an ASD file in Microsoft Word 2007

Hi there, I find it hard opening an ASD file in Microsoft Word 2007. Can anyone help me with ideas on how to do it? The ASD file was generated when Word auto recovered them. Any information on how to open such a file would be very helpful. Thanks a lot.

First open MS Word on your computer. Then follow the following steps.

1. From the Menu click on the "Microsoft Office Button" and click the "Open".

2. Then from the "Open" dialog box and type the below path on it. (For WIN Vista/7)

%userprofile%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWord

*If your OS is Win XP or lower type

%userprofile%Application DataMicrosoftWord*.asd

3. Then click "Open" and select the file you want to open.

Note: All automatically saved file names are in the format of "Auto Recovery save of —Your filename—"

4.Optionally if you want to browse your files to choose the correct file click "View" and select through from the "Details" tab.

Opening an ASD file in Microsoft Word 2007

Hi Oadira,

ASD is MS Word backup file, please use following process for recover such a file:

  1. Start Microsoft Word 2007 and click on Microsoft Office Button and click on Open.
  2.  In the File Type filed click the drop down and select All Files.
  3. Locate the .ASD file you need to restore and select it & click Open.
  4.  Now restart your computer.
  5.  After the reboot start MS Word again.
  6. Word AutoRecover will find the file and Recovery task pane will open on the left side of the screen.
  7. Your document will be listed with original document name and you can double click on it.
  8. Now click on Microsoft Office Button and click on Save As and save the document as .docx file.
