What is the yellow question mark in device manager beside the name of the device? Why does this happen and also sometimes accompanied by an exclamation mark? Why does it occur? How can it be removed?

The yellow question mark occurs when the device is detected by the computer, but its driver is not installed. It might look somewhat like this:

Before you install the driver, make sure you install the correct one else instead of helping it would create more problems. You can download the driver from the device manufacturer’s website or your PC manufacturer’s website. If you already have the device’s driver in your computer, then update your device through it. If your computer is custom built then you might have to visit your motherboard manufacturer’s website.

The yellow exclamation mark may be because of several issues. It could mean there is a system resource conflict, driver issues etc. It may also mean your device has an issues with the computer software. These issues can easily be rectified manually.

The yellow exclamation point in Device Manager indicates a problem of some kind with that device that the operating system has identified. This symbol marks the indication of a device’s current status and could mean that there is a conflict in the system resource, a problem with a driver, or several other things.

Sadly, the mark itself doesn’t provide an important information but what it does is verify that something called a “Device Manager error code” has been logged and associated with that specific device. Before you fix the problem, you need to learn the error code of the device which you can see in the “Device status” section of the device.

Once you get the device’s error code, go to Device Manager Error Codes and learn what the code means.
