Netbook fails to pick up any signal from my wireless router

Hello techyv,

I have a Netbook with Windows CE 6.0 Embedded. However, it fails to pick up any signal from my wireless router. As a fact, when I try using the net, it results in a DNS error; that is server not found. What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Your problem is your wireless internet connection. Your netbook did not detect connection with your wireless router that is why you have server not found. In that matter contact your internet provider so that they can fix the problem.  Here I will give you some tips try to reset your wireless router in a few seconds and check the main cable then restart your netbook. Then try to open it all. If it still doesn’t work so there is a problem with your wireless router. Hope it will help.

James,

There are some settings we need to check to see if you can connect to the internet.  You should have an icon marked "wi-fi" power, double click on this and make sure it is turned off.  Now, down at the bottom of the screen you should see an icon that is for wireless connect, if you click on it "IP information" will appear.  This information will show "RT28701" and should also say "OK".  Next double click on the wireless icon and go to the "wireless information" tab.  This tab will have the name of your router on it and will show the strength of your signal.   On this tab you will need to right click on the name of your router and choose configure.  Once the network name come up make sure the box that says "this is an ad hoc network" is not checked.  Next, make sure "encryption-WEP authentication" is open.  The box stating "the key is provided automatically" should not checked.  Now enter your key to your router in the network box (its usually printed near the serial number).  If your router has 802.1x authentication check that box and also, the box that says "TLS".   Next click on "properties" and make sure there is not a check in the box to "validate server".  Lastly, click on "OK".

Now that you are done with the wireless settings, go to the start menu and select settings>network and dial up connection.  A window will appear with several preloaded settings, choose "RT28701".  You need to select "obtain an IP address via DHCP".  Now check the tab that says "Name servers" and this should be blank.  Click on "OK" and then repeat this procedure for "GETCE6B1", which is your Ethernet connection.   Now turn the router and the netbook  off and back on to reset them both.  By doing this you will save the changes you have made.  Next plug an Ethernet cable into the back of the router and then into the netbook.  Next you will need to bring up internet explorer.  Once your home page comes up turn the netbook off, disconnect the cable, reset the router (turn it off and back on)  and bring the netbook back up.  You will now be able to connect wirelessly.

Hello james yorath,

I think you need to check for a wireless adapter driver. Please tell us your notebook model and also specifies the wireless adapter model. I think if you install the driver than you may can pick up the signal from your router.

As I already told you that the problem is your wireless adapter so this problem can be counter because of that too. Also please check the DNS settings that may help you for this instance.

Please let us know what the latest result is after trying these procedures.

  Thank you,

Riley weaver.
