Hello fellow techies. I need help regarding my external hard drive which just suddenly stopped working. I already tried all tricks I know to repair it, and even tried to replace the same type of board but still nothing worked. Does anybody know other tricks on how to fix a spoilt sata HDD? Or even just to at least get the files and transfer it to another HDD. Please help me.

I would suggest that you bring your external hard drive to an expert. It would be risky to further repair it on your own.

Not all of the tricks online are a 100% sure that you can get your external hard drive working. But if you want to try your luck, list down the methods you have used and we’ll post other methods that you can try.

If your SATA hard drive suddenly stopped working, try checking the cables inside the CPU. Turn off the CPU then open the CPU case. Disconnect all the cables connected to the hard drive. Next, connect the ribbon cable or data cable back to the hard drive. For the power, change the power supply cable with the other cable.

After this, turn on the CPU then press DEL, DELETE, F2, or whichever key is used to go to the BIOS. In the BIOS, go to the drive management section then detect the hard drive. If there is no option to detect a hard drive, exit BIOS and boot normally.

If the drive is still not detected, turn off the CPU then disconnect the other end of the ribbon cable from the motherboard and then connect it back. Start the CPU then see if it works. If the problem continues, try connecting the hard drive to another working computer then see if the drive works there.
