Need to find a way to open S Memo files in PC

Hello everybody,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile and had some issues with it. After contacting with Samsung device repair center I have mailed the device to them for repair. Before mailing it, I have taken a backup of the entire mobile through Kies 3. I use to have my notes in S Memos and the backed up files are showing as .ssm files in my PC having Windows 7 on it. But, I am unable to read the notes files.

Is there a way to open/read these files? I have some important information in those files which I have to access ASAP. Someone please help me. Thanks in advance!

Hi robert, Simply follow the following instruction  Ensure your device is connected to Kies then open the 'Memos' widget;

– Click on the folder with the arrow which displays the tooltip 'Open' and further select 'My Computer';

– Select the .smm file with your latest saved Memos;

– Click the image with the phone beside the floppy disk which displays the tooltip 'Apply to device'

– You may need to sync Kies with your phone for the changes to take effect which can be done by hovering over your phones image on the Samsung Kies screen and then clicking the cycling arrows.

There are many programs associated with the SSM file (.ssm) and the file you have is the one associated with the Samsung Kies application. The extension stands for “Samsung S Memo” or the Samsung S Memo file. It is a binary data file created by Samsung Galaxy Smartphones using Samsung Kies to save the user’s memos which may contain designs or handwritten notes that were created on the phone.

The file can be synchronized and backed up to a computer using Samsung Kies but unfortunately, the application itself or Samsung Kies is not capable of opening or reading the file. The only way to access the content of the file is to synchronize it back to your phone once the phone is back to you.

Other programs also create SSM file like with RealPlayer, it creates its own .ssm file. In RealPlayer, SSM stands for “Standard Streaming Metafile” and it is a streaming audio and video file format used by the application.
