I really need it fixed. My computer has suddenly stopped sending emails with the rejection message:

“The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender’s e-mail address. Error number 0x800CCC78.”

I use OE 6.  Everything was working well until last day. My system  is Windows XP. Can anyone guide me on  what should I do to make my system back to normal again?

The error 0x800CCC78 occurs when SMTP server does not get identified in a correct way.  It may also be due to not choosing  the Server Authentication settings in Outlook Express account. The error may also occur due the fact that you have typed wrong e-mail address in the box “Reply to” field. One more reason can be that destination address has not been configured properly. Perform the following steps to come out of this situation:

1. In the Outlook Express, go to Tools and select the option Accounts.

2. Select the tab Mail and select your email account and click on properties button.

3. Select the tab Servers and then place the check mark for “My server rewuires authentication”.

4. Click on Apply and then OK button.

That does all.  Restart your system to get changes effective.

The error may also be due to some invalid email addresses. So make sure that you have typed all email addresses of sender/receiver correctly.

The error may also be the fact that the person you are trying to mail has some problem with his/her mailing server.  So I will recommend contacting that person and making sure his account is ok.

Hi!

The error 0x800CCC78 means that your sender's email address has been rejected by the your mail server. This basically means that your email address may be invalid due to incorrect spelling or missing characters on your email account settings. This commonly occurs when you may have changed some of the settings in OE6.  Your computer updates its softwares such as your security system and also windows updates which sometimes may lead to resetting your settings to default and that would affect your mail client settings.

Here are some steps for you to check if your email is correctly entered:

  • Open your Outlook express 6
  • Go to tools>Accounts
  • Click on the mail tab>highlight your mail account>click properties
  • Click General Tab>look for the email account box> Check if your email is entered correctly
  • Click Apply then OK once done with the changes
  • Relaunch OE6 or reboot PC if needed.
