MSN on Mac doesn’t work well

Hello all,

My MacBook Pro bought in June running with Snow Leopard still, so need to update to Lion. But while trying to update using MSN, process is disconnected with a pop up message that says: The system is unavailable now so you have been signed out of Microsoft Messenger."

Among my friends, they are using Macs without facing this error. Trying to re-install many times, but failed with the same problem. I assumed that this may be an internet connection problem, but MSN also disconnects while downloads or streaming works fine.

I also updated all to 10.7.2 but the problem continues.

Suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

The problem is Actually a firewall (provably in your ADSL/wireless router) prohibiting connections to port 1863. Microsoft's MSN Service for windows. Try to connect to the specified (1863) port and if it doesn't get succeeded, it depends on a traditional “http” connectivity option to port 80. Microsoft MSN developed for Mac OS apparently doesn't do this).

Allow incoming connections

Therefore, you can try these solutions:

1) Disable or low down rules of the firewall on your ADSL/wireless router;

2) You can try an alternate client who can set to just http connection. On Linux: aMsn, Pidgin, KMess, Emesene. Mac, I could only get aMsn working (I couldn’t find these settings on Adium).

Or,

You might need to move the install to your application’s folder. Click on it, wait until the icon appears in the dock then right click and set it to stay in the dock, then exit/quit, And start it from the dock, then log in. It should work now.

Enjoy,
