Hi everyone,

My name is Adam, accountant, I would just like to ask a question regarding my Laptop. Lately my Laptop is shutting down very slowly, sometimes it will take 5-10 minutes to shutdown. It wasn't showing any update installation while shutting down but still it is taking forever to power off.

Why does this happen and what can I do to fix the problem? I plan on upgrading my OS to Windows 7 in the future because of all the problems and bugs that Vista has. If anyone knows the solution for a fast computer shutdown please let me know.  Thanks a lot.

The master control in an operating system is the Windows Registry. Overload registry and corruption issues and all sorts of PC performance including poor start up times, a very slow start up and your problem extremely slow shut down, as well as time consuming Internet surfing and more.

By optimizing your Windows registry it can go a long way to speeding up the performance of your computer, start and shutdown speed. Run a registry scan, there are free software on the Internet that you can download. Another option is by accessing your System Configuration Utility by clicking Start then run and type msconfig in the field then navigate to the start up tab. You can also manage these programs by a software such as RegCure it can manage the process for in an easy and effortless way.

Hi,

System slows down because different processes and services are running. Some of them are not necessary so close them by open the services option in the control panel. Some time paging may be the problem due to this computer got slow down at the shut down. So alter the page file by open regedit and change the parameter into 0.

Many other ways like fragmentation could also make your system faster.

Apply all these options.

Regards.

Hello,You say your laptop takes 5-10 minutes to shutdown and it dose not show any update installing or any kinds of jobs is going on. Is it take times to startup? You haven't say about this. And you say it takes time 5-10  sometime not all time.

You should check your start up which software are starting when it starts. To check this Windows Key+R >msconfig>Startup you can see which software are in your startup. Just remove unwanted application from startup. Then restart. As well as you need to install a good Antivirus such as NOD32, Kasperksy, or Avast (free).  Shutdown issues can also be caused by old drivers so make sure all drivers are updated.

Vista has so many problems and bug if you can migrate to Windows 7 please change this. Windows 7 is a good operating system. VISTA is the worst product of Microsoft.

Thanks,

I'd delete as much junk as possible i. e. any programs you never use, music, temporary internet files, etc.

I'd also recommend defragging with an advanced, powerful defragger like diskeeper (free trials at http://www.condusiv.com/).

It's much faster than the in-built and far more thorough.
