Hello experts,

I am using Windows 7 Operating System 64-bit and last few days ago I am getting some weird error when I try to run Nastran 2012 Student Edition. I reinstalled the application so that I can beware this error but the same error appeared. Can I remove this error forever? Assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Edward,

The error is because some setting is missing while starting MD Nastran.
To resolve the error follow the steps as mentioned below:
1) Go to 'Start', Click 'Computer'

Select-Computer-through-Start-panel

2) Navigate to the path 'C:UsersDesktoptesttestmodule.bdf'
3) Open the MSCNastran command information, add the following in the optional keywords: 'prog=eduauth=eduarch=32'

Command-information-window-for-MSC-NASTRAN

4) Click 'Run', follow the further installation steps wizard
5) Restart the system after the installation is completed

This problem with Nastran 2010 Student Edition has or triggers three successive error messages:

“Unsupported 16-Bit Application
The program or feature
“\??\C:\MSC.Software\MD_Nastran_Student_Edition\20102\Nastran\bin\nastran.exe” cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available.”

“C:\MSC.Software\MD_Nastran_Student_Edition\20102\Nastran\bin\nastran.exe” failed. Error Code = 216, 0xd8.”

“MSC Messages Display Program
This version of %1 is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.”

These messages may indicate a compatibility problem even if you installed the correct version of the program. To fix the problem, add the following keywords when starting Nastran:

prog=edu auth=edu arch=32
