MS Excel Compile error in hidden module: GenUtil

Hello,

I have some concern in opening Microsoft Excel. An error pops up that points to a compiler error.

I am wondering, I am not using any compiler here. I am not an application developer.

Compile error in hidden module: GenUtil

I tried to remove and re-installing Excel, but it did not resolve the issue.

I cannot remove the entire installation of Microsoft Office, I am afraid my settings for Outlook will be lost.

As I browsed the internet and look for some solution, I went to Microsoft site to look for some solution. It suggested removing  Norton Antivirus if there is one and some PDF files that I did not locate in my system.

All mentioned did not solve the problem.

Please share some ideas on my post.

Hello Jamyjolts,

Thank you for your important question. Many users have already faced this problem. Now I am giving you the causes as well as the solution of it.

  • At windows start up, a program PDFMaker.xla runs by default after Microsoft Office installation.
  • Please delete this if you can in your own way. Otherwise do the following:

  1. Go to run command placed in start menu.
  2. Type ‘msconfig’ and press enter. System Configuration box will be opened.
  3. Under Startup tab, find PDFMaker.xla and uncheck it.
  4. Press apply and then ok it.
  5. Reboot your computer.
  6. Go to my computer and go to search option and type ‘PDFMaker.xla’ and press enter
  7. Delete all of it

I think your problem is solved.

Thank you.
