Hi

I understand your problem and will help you to solve this.

This is a problem, which happens when you try to install this software from a Standard user account.

Try to install from an Administrator account and see what happens.

Also uninstall any anti virus or anti malware software that you have installed on your computer.

Restart the pc and install. It will be installed.

There are two things you should check:

  • First you need to ensure that „Windows Installer Service“ is running. Follow these steps:

1. Click Start. In Search programs and files (or Start Search) box, type services.msc, and then press Enter.

2. Right-click on „Windows Installer“ item, and then click Start. If Start is unavailable and „Stop“ and „Restart“ options are available, this indicates you that this service is already started.

3. Close Services.

4. Click Start. In Search programs and files (or Start Search) box, type command prompt. Click right mouse button on Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

5. Type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then press Enter.

6. Install Microsoft Security Essentials. If same error occurs, continue to the second step.

  • Try starting Windows in Selective Startup mode

1. Click Start. In Search programs and files (or Start Search) box, type msconfig, and then press Enter.

2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then uncheck Load Startup Items checkbox.

3. On the Services tab, check Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox, and then clear all the check boxes for the services that remain in the list (except your antivirus software)

4. Click OK, and then restart your computer.

5. Try to install Microsoft Security Essentials.

Hello Paul,

The error you are getting when installing Microsoft Security Essentials is due to the following reasons:

  • When running the update you might not be having a stable connection to the internet, and therefore the installation packages needed to perform the upgrade cannot be able to be downloaded on your computer. You will need to troubleshoot problems with your internet connection, if you are using wireless internet make sure that you look for a strong signal point.
  • The Microsoft Security Essentials you are trying to install on your computer is not supported by the version of the operating system you have. Check the system specs, whether the OS is a 32 bit of 64 bit and the get the right Microsoft Security Essentials for installation.
