The first thing that you should do, should you plan to use the mail service in your Nokia phone is, to set up the exchange email server. Following this basic process provides you with absolutely no errors at all, except of course for some minor glitches and bugs. On your phone's home screen, select the "Set up e-mail" using the NavKey. A pop-up menu should appear, you have to click on "Start e-mail setup" and select "Start". The Exchange server is provided by the Exchange administrator, and you can ask for it with Microsoft or your company that uses Outlook, and fill the server name. Allow the installation to begin, and select "Continue". Wait for the installation to finish. Here's another catch, never use other synchronization softwares because you may lose some data. After that tedious process, you can now access your Exchange email from your Nokia E71. Change the screen settings anytime after the email is synchronized.

For other e-mail exchange programs not using Outlook, the same processes follow. Nokia support informs its users to avoid using other softwares as some data might get lost during the synchronization process.
