I have created Notes as default mail client. But when I am trying to send a DOC file by using the send to, an error message has pops up which displays that ‘Lotus Notes MailMan Error’.  Please guide me to fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kate,

Would you be able to provide the full error message you are getting? The Lotus Notes Mailman error should include additional error messages which will help us to isolate and provide more accurate procedures on resolving the issue.

You can sometimes encounter an error when sending some emails with attachment on Lotus notes if you are running it as administrator. To resolve this, you can try to run and open Lotus Notes as a normal or regular user. How to do this? You need to look for notes.exe file on C:Program filesIBMLotusNotes folder then right click on it and choose properties. You then need to click on Compatibility tab and Change setting for all users. Make sure box next to Run this program as an administrator is unticked.

If Lotus Notes is a fresh installation and you want to use it as your default email client then the error is probably because Lotus Notes is not configured properly. You need to check if the login credentials you provided are all correct because every time you send an email with Lotus Notes, the email client will login to your account to send the message.

If the login credentials are incorrect then you will have an error like this. You also need to configure the outgoing and incoming mail server of the email client. This is where you select if you will be using POP3 or IMAP for the SMTP or the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. The most commonly used is the IMAP. POP3 is only best for pushing the messages to a device such as a Smartphone.

The port used for the SMTP is normally the default number so you don’t need to change this part in the email client. To fix your problem, you need to verify the login credentials used in Lotus Notes. Set the correct IMAP address both for the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

An example of an IMAP incoming mail server is “imap.gmx.com”. For the outgoing mail server, you might have “mail.gmx.com”. You can get all these information from your mail server so check your account.
