Linux and yahoo messenger problem

I want to install Linux on my P4 with four partitions on it (40 GB).

Do I need to partition it further for Linux or can I direct it to some of my pre-existing partitions?

Please recommend some version of Linux for a home PC. 

Another problem is that while using Yahoo messenger, my system gives this error message :”yparger.exe” has performed an illegal function or is corrupt”. 

Following this, my yahoo! Messenger quits and I have to restart it. 

Sometimes my audio suddenly stops too.

Can I take care of both problems without restarting my system?

Linux and yahoo messenger problem

You can easily install Linux on an existing partition. You just have to make sure that it has at least 4GB free space for a minimum installation, 12 GB is recommended.

You can also install Linux by creating new partitions, you’ll have to create two partitions, one is the “swap” partition which is used as virtual memory and another is for the “root” filesystem. You can get more information on this on this page,

For recommending a version of Linux for home use, you can go for the Ubuntu distro. It is very user friendly and is very powerful for everyday works. You can get the latest version of Ubuntu,

And as with your problem with yahoo messenger, your Yahoo messenger installation may be corrupt or may be infected by virus. You can try uninstalling Yahoo messenger, then deleting ypager.exe file from “C:Program FilesYahooMessenger” and “C:WindowsSystem32” folder if you can find it and then reinstalling the Yahoo messenger again.

Re-installing sound driver can also solve the audio stopping problem.

Linux and yahoo messenger problem

Most of the time sudden change in the application’s behavior is usually caused by internal errors in Windows operating system. The interactions between the processes that run in the background oftentimes result in the delay in an application’s opening or closing task.

If you poorly maintain your computer then most likely your computer will go slower and slower as you use it everyday. There is also the possibility that the error was caused by a previous incomplete installation of software or an unexpected power interruption.

If you are experiencing this error on your Yahoo! Messenger, uninstall it and then run a disk check on your computer.

1. Right click on drive C and then select Properties.
2. Click Tools tab.
3. Click Check Now.
4. Check Automatically fix file system errors and then click Start.

After the disk check download and install Yahoo! Messenger 11, the latest version. It is compatible to run with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

As what Samuel Roeberts posted above about your soundcard, if reinstalling its driver didn’t fix the problem, consider formatting your hard drive and installing Windows again. It’s useless to fix individual applications if your operating system is not functioning very well.
