For disk error in Windows 8, you can fix the error by running CHKDSK. Just follow these simple steps for that purpose:

  1. First, insert the DVD or USB drive and boot from it.
  2. Next, select a language, time and keyboard method.
  3. Click Next
  4. Then, in the Install now window, choose Repair your computer or just press R.
  5. Now, go to Troubleshoot and then click Advanced Options.
  6. Open Command Prompt
  7. Typethe command as ‘chkdsk’ and then hit Enter:

chkdsk C: /f /x /r

Replace C: with the name of the drive where your Windows 8 is present.

If you receive a read disk error or read disk failure on starting the computer, you need to check the drive for errors and fix it. This error is different with I/O error and boot failure. You may receive an I/O error if there is a problem with the connection of the hard drive inside the CPU case while boot failure may be encountered in different ways.

Like for example, when there is a disc in the optical drive or a USB flash drive is connected in the USB port. In your case, try connecting your hard drive on another computer. Turn off your computer then open the CPU case and then remove the hard drive. After this, connect the hard drive to another computer then see if the hard drive is accessible.

If the hard drive is not accessible, you need to check it with a disk utility. Download PC Tools Performance Toolkit and use it to check your hard drive.
